The Book Monster
I love getting cozy on the couch with my three kiddos, cracking open a book, and reading it with them. I especially enjoy this when the book is clever.
The other day, I read a very clever book with my kids. It made us all smile.
The Book Monster by Emily Waisanen isn’t just a cute kid’s book. She uses language beautifully; alliteration, rhythm, rich words (such as relish, morsel, flavorful). In my house, we love learning new words. Ms. Waisanen certainly gave us a few. She also discusses genre in a clever way. When discussing his favorite books on which to dine, the monster says, “Westerns really wet my whistle”. So fun!
My kids loved this book. I read it several times to them. I know that a book has hit the spot for them when they start quoting it as they play. This is one of those books.
Oh! And the illustrations (by John Konecny) are bright, fun, and compliment the story very well.
I sure do love a good book. And I know you do, too.

Emily Waisanen is a mother of two beautiful girls, Lucy and Hattie. She lives with her husband and family in Fond du Lac, WI where she is currently a stay-at-home mom.
“The Book Monster” is her first book and was inspired by her daughter Lucy who used to chew on her books as
a baby.
As a former middle school teacher, Emily knows the value andimportance of literacy at an early age. She hopes to write more books in the future and inspire others to achieve their writing dreams.

I think my favorite children’s book is “The Twelve Days of Summer” which follows to the tune of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. We would sing it as we read it and always looked for the little purple sea anemone (partridge in a pear tree). The kids LOVED it!

I don’t think I could pick just one favorite!!! We love anything by Mo Willems (especially the Elephant and Piggie series) and Sandra Boyton. 🙂

Looks cute as heck!! Have liked her page too. You know I have a ridiculous amount of books…actually, you haven’t seen the crazy upstairs yet. It’s so hard to pick a favorite…We loved the Sandra Boyntons when the kids were babies (and still do, really) and Scarry and currently love the Piratey-type books and Pete the Cat and…and….Oh books.

We loved the Boo and Baa books, The Fuzzy Peach, and Goodnight Moon. Oh and the Harold and the Purple Crayon books.

My favorite book was “Katy and the Big Snow.”
According to Amazon it was written by Virginia Lee Burton, who I just learned wrote my second favorite book, “Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel.”
My folks grew weary of reading them to me over and over and over.

I love reading to my girls before they go to bed. We’re in between Madeline and Brown Bear Brown Bear but I am enjoying them none the less. Any suggestions for a 1 and 3 year old? Harold and the Purple Crayon is by far my favorite.

Oh, what sweet ages! I love 1 and 3. Well…okay…every age is sweet.
You know, my kids have always been big fans of Dr. Seuss. And they aren’t too young for Sally Lloyd-Jones’ “The Jesus Storybook Bible”. It is GORGEOUS!
